SIS Alumna Quanta Wyatt Receives the 2023 Arkansas Library Association Renetta Patrick Award for Outstanding School Librarianship
Alumna Quanta Wyatt (‘95) loves conducting research. Her passion is what helped her gain the Arkansas Library Association (ARLA) Renetta Patrick Award for outstanding school librarianship, but she says she couldn’t have done it alone. Â
Wyatt is originally from Monticello, Arkansas, and lived there until she was fifteen. Her family then moved to West Memphis, Arkansas, where she graduated from Marion High School. After high school, Wyatt received her B.S.E. in social studies from Arkansas State University.Â

CCI Alumnus to host guest lecture presentation for SIS
College of Communication and Information alumnus Kevin Mallary is ensuring everyone is included in the conversation through his research on disabilities and accessibility.
Mallary is an assistant professor of library and information studies at Old Dominion University. He earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in communication at Wake Forest University and earned his PhD in communication and information from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.
Mallary has done extensive research on the use of assistive technologies in academic libraries and whether or not the delivery process provided by academic libraries is actually meeting students and their needs. SIS Assistant Professor Rebecca Frank Works to Preserve History and Safeguard the Future through her Research
School of Information Sciences Assistant Professor Rebecca Frank’s research looks at the risks and rewards of digital curation, digital preservation, data sharing and reuse in areas such as AI satellite imagery and preserving history.
Frank received her bachelors, masters, and PhD from the University of Michigan. She is currently teaching data stewardship and ethics along with digital curation for SIS. Before joining the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, Frank was the Einstein Center Digital Future Junior Professor for Information Management at the Berlin School of Information Science at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin.Â

MSIS student wins first place in his division at CCI Research Symposium
From the sunny beaches of California to Norway’s northern lights and beyond, School of Information Sciences masters student Christopher Hastings is on a mission to find answers regarding mammoth ivory hunting in Siberia.
Hastings won first place at the 46th Annual College of Communication and Information Research Symposium in his division. His research presentation was titled Mammoth Ivory Hunting in Siberia: The Ethical, Environmental, Cultural, and Economic Considerations.Â
Hastings was born in Southern California and received his undergraduate degree in history at the University of California San Diego.

Info Sci Club Provides Hands-on Projects for First-Year Student
School of Information Sciences (SIS) first-year student Kyler Misenheimer is getting involved right away with student organizations at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.
Misenheimer is from Knoxville and went to Bearden High School where he was part of a program called Virtual Enterprises International (VE). VE provides students skills-based career experiences through hands-on projects and curricula. In VE, Misenheimer was able to create multiple websites for mock companies.
