esikes@utk.edu

Sikes is a clinical assistant professor and director of undergraduate studies in the School of Information Sciences. A graduate of the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, he is a proud Vol and is committed to providing a transformative educational experience for students.

His academic and personal interests are wide-ranging and interdisciplinary, but he most enjoys exploring the ways information technologies and information systems impact our social world and our culture, particularly the ways such tools are used in movements of resistance, protest, and social change.

He is also a graduate of Emory & Henry College in Virginia, where he taught for several years and served as the director of the Appalachian Center for Civic Life and the Bonner Scholarship Program. Born and raised in the Appalachian mountains, his research and academic pursuits center upon the region as well as issues that impact rural places. Prior to his years in higher education, Sikes worked mostly in the publishing industry. He is an avid road cyclist and enjoys working on his small farm where he and his spouse raise Katahdin sheep. He also serves as the pastor of a small Presbyterian church.
