The University Libraries at Virginia Tech employs over 100 faculty and professional staff. This practicum position is in the office of Scholarly Communication and reports to the Open Education, Copyright & Scholarly Communication Librarian who is located on site at Newman Library. (Virtual practica will also be considered if the student is located outside of driving distance.) The work that we do in the office of Scholarly Communication touches on open access, copyright, open educational resources, library publishing, and other areas.
Depending on the timing, the practicum student could be involved in: 1) conducting and analyzing surveys related to teaching & learning, course materials, and use/adaptation/adoption of Open Educational Resources, 2) assisting in implementing a communication strategy for a library publishing crowdfunding/awareness campaign, 3) developing workshops and documentation for technical platforms, or 4) solving one of a few specific “big hairy audacious problems” using technology. (Ask me for more details.)
