The Scholars’ Collaborative is a group of librarians and staff focusing on scholarly communication and digital scholarship. The Collaborative is an office area near The Studio in Hodges Library on the UT campus.

Student Tasks

The student will work with the Scholarly Communication Librarian to support Open Education efforts and events. The student will work with various campus offices and library partners, such as the Student Government Association, to:
1) identify faculty and instructors who use open textbooks and open educational resources (OERs) and
2) design graphics to present this information to campus. The student will also
3) facilitate the nominating and/or review process for an award that recognizes instructors who have adopted OERs in their courses and
4) help organize OER events that include faculty, university administrators, and/or student government.

Type of mentoring provided to student

In the first weeks of the practicum, the student will learn about OERs and open licensing through a series of readings and weekly meetings. The student will attend monthly meetings of the Open Textbook Working Group. The student will learn how to create and/or edit LibGuides and will have regular planning meetings with the librarian.

Level of interaction the student will have with others in the organization

The student will work with liaison librarians, teaching & learning librarians, instructional designers in the Office of Information Technology, student government leaders, members of the Office of the Dean of Students, and others who are members of the Open Textbook Working Group.
