The Acquisitions & Continuing Resources Department at UT Libraries consists of 17 personnel divided into three sub-units: Resource Acquisitions, Resource Management, and Resource Sharing. This practicum is with the Resource Management unit, which has primary responsibility for licensing, activating, renewing, and troubleshooting electronic resources. The office is located on the 3rd floor of John C. Hodges Library.

Student Tasks

The student will learn about the electronic resource lifecycle, troubleshoot electronic resource access issues, and analyze electronic resources for compliance with accessibility standards. Programs used will include Ex Libris’ Alma, Springshare’s LibAnswers, and OCLC’s EZproxy. The student will complete an accessibility identification project to identify current accessibility levels of electronic resources, including any areas of concern.

Type of mentoring provided to student

In the first weeks of the practicum, the student will learn about the electronic resource lifecycle, accessibility, and troubleshooting practices through a series of readings and in-person training with Resource Management staff. The student will attend monthly Resource Management unit meetings. The student will have regular planning meetings with the librarian.

Level of interaction the student will have with others in the organization

The student will report to the Head of Acquisitions & Continuing Resources and interact with the rest of the Resource Management team in a collaborative and supportive environment.
