The School of Information Sciences in the University of Tennessee, Knoxville’s (UTK) College of Communication and Information (CCI), is seeking a non-tenure-track Clinical Assistant Professor in information sciences to join us in our quest to enrich, elevate and transform communities and the information professions through excellence in research, education and service. The initial appointment for this 12-month position will be up to a maximum of three years, with the possibility of renewal.
The successful candidate will teach and advise students in our ALA-accredited master’s degree program in information sciences, serve as director of the master’s program, and manage the master’s program practicum. School, college, university, and professional service are also expected. We especially welcome candidates with demonstrated success in working with diverse populations.
Required Qualifications: Earned doctorate by time of appointment in information sciences, library science or related area. Record of successful teaching and mentoring in an institution of higher education in areas related to the master’s degree program. Experience or demonstrated ability in the design and delivery of courses in a variety of formats, including face-to-face, synchronous online, asynchronous online, and hybrid. Experience in–or the potential for–building an equitable and diverse scholarly environment in teaching, mentoring, life experiences, or service. Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, students and staff from a wide range of disciplines, cultures and academic backgrounds is essential. Ability to build positive and mutually-beneficial relationships with professionals working in a variety of information sectors.
Desired Qualifications: Candidates with professional experience in information sciences-related careers, and who have connections to the information professions are especially welcome. Experience in program administration, development and evaluation are also desired.
The School and College. The School of Information Sciences is part of the College of Communication and Information (CCI), along with three other schools: Advertising and Public Relations, Communication Studies, and Journalism and Electronic Media. The School of Information Sciences is a member of the iSchools Consortium and is the 17th ranked library and information science school by U.S. News and World Report. It has both online and on-campus Master of Science in Information Sciences programs with approximately 280 students. It also offers an undergraduate minor in information sciences, and recently launched the state’s first Bachelor of Science in Information Sciences degree.
