The CODATA Data Science Journal is a peer-reviewed, open access, electronic journal, publishing papers on the management, dissemination, use and reuse of research data and databases across all research domains, including science, technology, the humanities and the arts. The scope of the journal includes descriptions of data systems, their implementations and their publication, applications, infrastructures, software, legal, reproducibility and transparency issues, the availability and usability of complex datasets, and with a particular focus on the principles, policies and practices for open data.
This project aims to develop and refresh key guidance for authors, which is published on the website at https://datascience.codata.org/. The topics to be refreshed include: trusted digital repositories for data papers, Open Access and Author Processing Charges (APC) and extending the scope to include mathematics and statistical aspects of data science. Development of a social media strategy to promote the journal may also be considered, depending on time availabilities.
The student will work with the Editor-in-Chief of the journal and the Managing Editor (who is in charge of the day to day technical operations) under the local mentorship of Bonnie C Carroll, Secretary General of CODATA and CEO of IIa in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. This will give the student a good understanding of how academic publishing in an Open Access environment works, and the policies and procedures needed to support it.
Most of the work can be done remotely; A kick off meeting and a project review with Ms. Carroll in Oak Ridge is desirable but not a show stopper; It can be done remotely if necessary.
