Job Title: Director
Place of Employment: Blount County Public Library
Term Ends: 2021

BS, University of Southern Mississippi, 1984, Library Science
MLIS, University of Southern Mississippi, 1998, Library and Information Science

I have over 25 years of progressively responsible work experience in a variety of library settings including public, academic, school and corporate institutions. I have been responsible for the development, instruction and implementation of adult education programs including teacher training, technology training, basic skills and workforce development. I have served as the Director of the Blount County Public Library since January of 2014. Additionally, I serve as an adjunct instructor in the UT School of Information Science where I teach Adult Programs and ServicesPublic Library Management and Rural Library Management.   I have owned my own business and consider the management of a library equivalent to the management of a business with accountability and return on investment as viable factors.

I facilitated the transition of the Sevier County Public Library System from a charity to a county department at the board of trustee’s direction. I planned and facilitated the transition of four library branches into a cohesive library system with a centralized administration. Other accomplishments include the capital campaign, design and oversight of two library building projects totaling $13 million dollars, the expansion of library services and programs resulting in a 75% increase in annual visitors between 2003 and 2010, and a 36% increase in funding prior to the opening of a new 40,000 square foot main library in May of 2010.

In my previous position, I served as a head of department in a government ministry in the Cayman Islands and successfully navigated politics, culturally-based staff conflicts and operational inefficiencies. My accomplishments include the development of a library policy structure, capacity building to stabilize library services, and a complete organizational re-structuring. These outcomes resulted in the development of the first formal strategic plan for the national library service.

Additionally, I have been an active educator since 1993, developing curriculum and providing training to peers, teachers, community members, staff members and university students across all my work experiences. I am self-motivated and goal oriented with outstanding communication and presentation skills. I enjoy working in a team, am adept at articulating a course of action and at motivating others to participate. I have outstanding organizational skills with respect to team management, project management and curriculum design.
