58 Awarded UT SIS Master’s Degree May 11, 2018

Master’s degrees were bestowed on fifty-eight graduates of the School of Information Sciences (SIS) May 11, 2018 in a ceremony held on campus in the Natalie L. Haslam Music Building. Twenty-nine of the graduates participated in the hooding and awards ceremony.

Dr. Sandra Treadway (IS/MS ’07), Librarian of Virginia, received the 2018 SIS Distinguished Alumni Award in recognition of her leadership and accomplishments in the information science profession. She energized the graduates with her speech challenging them to nurture and progress the role of libraries to serve their communities in new and dynamic ways.

Amber Conger (IS/MS ’10), Director Kershaw County Library, Columbia, South Carolina, was selected as the 2018 Innovator Award recipient. She inspired the graduates to go beyond the expectations in their future careers while also maintaining a life-balance.

Graduate Tyler Martindale gave the student speech for his fellow graduates thanking the SIS faculty for their support and congratulating the many graduates who have already made commitments to new IS jobs.

Two faculty members were also recognized at the ceremony. Associate Professor Wade Bishop received the Bonnie Carroll and Roy Cooper Faculty Enrichment Award and Chancellor’s Professor Carol Tenopir received the Gloria and Dave Sharrar Faculty Research Award.

Best Thesis Award – Scott Sikes

Best ePortfolio Award (Honorable Mention) – Jordan Kaufman

Best Technical Project Award (Group) – Kristina Clement, Brianne Dosch, Lauren Johnson

Best Technical Project Award (Individual) – Rebecca McCusker

Best Paper Award – Ashlea Green
